Hey husbands, listen up! Mother’s Day is this weekend and I can only assume that most of you are still procrastinating and need some good gift ideas to shower your amazing wives with. Well, you are in luck, because I just happen to have that list! And let me just say that I advise you to splurge a little on this holiday because your wives deserve it! As a mom myself, I know the daily duties that being a mother entails and without going into detail, I am already exhausted thinking about it. Your better half deserves to be pampered and ladies, if you are reading this, go ahead and drop subtle hints on what you want. Or better yet, book an appointment for one of my suggestions below, tell him he needs to watch the kids, and enjoy yourself!
Blow Me Away Organic Head Spa in West Hollywood is an organic full service hair salon and head spa that specializes in Japanese scalp revitalization. Basically, it is a facial for your scalp and it is pure bliss. You all know how good it feels when you get your hair washed at the salon? Well this treatment is like that but about a hundred times better! When I went, (for research purposes obviously) I got the Dry Scalp Care, which was $115 for 45 minutes. First, they evaluate your scalp for any dryness, or any other issues and then determine what sort of products you need. Next, they take you into a dimly lit room, lay you back in the chair and begin the treatment. I swear to God there were tiny Cherubs flying around the room playing a sweet melody on harps while misting the most soothing scent you can imagine as the stylist shampooed my hair over and over again until I felt like my scalp should be on the cover of Scalps Illustrated. After your treatment, they set you up at a salon station, give you some tea and you can either pay extra for a blowout, or you can dry your hair yourself (I chose the DIY option). It was incredible.
If you want to try something a little different than a facial or a massage, I suggest the Epicurean Espresso Limon Slimming Wrap at The Body Sculpting Studio in Studio City. This detox and firming treatment consists of a European full body brushing and a slimming espresso limon oil treatment, which is applied to your body to purify and detox. Supposedly, it also diminishes cellulite (huge plus!) because they use a unique brushing technique. So what exactly do they do during this treatment? Let me break it down for you. First, they bring you into the treatment room and give you sparkling water and some chocolates, which means, they already won me over. Next, you strip down like you are getting a massage and get under the blankets on the table. When your technician comes in, she describes the treatment to you in full detail (I wasn’t really listening though because of the aforementioned chocolates that I was eating) and then gets to work. She takes out this brush similar to the ones that are used to groom horses, and basically rubs down your booty and thighs. It kind of hurts and kind of feels good all at the same time like during the extraction process of a facial. (Ouch, get off me lady! Wait, you are finished already? Bummer!) Then she lathers you up with the aromatic espresso limon scrub, wraps you in a Mylar blanket and you lay there and sweat out all the toxins in your body (aka the chocolate you just ate). It’s pretty fantastic and I did not want to leave after my treatment was done.
If your wifey isn’t one for spa outings and would rather stay at home for a do it yourself treatment, that’s fine too. Here are a few of my favorite products that you can throw together in a cute basket and make her smile:
Most likely, because she is a mom, there are many sleepless nights during the week. I love Tarte Cosmetics Pack Your Bags under eye patches, which will get rid of those dark circles that mommy hood can bring on, in a matter of 10-15 minutes.
Maybe she just needs a little pick-me-up for the day? I am obsessed with Thrive liquid lash extension mascara. It seriously makes you look like you are wearing false lashes without all the hassle, glue and time.
Whenever I am feeling blah, I think a good self-tanner is a fabulous way to get that pep back in my step. My favorite? Tanceuticals self tanner for your body and face, and it even comes with a self tanning mitt so you won’t get those streaks or blotches on your wrists and knees that makes it obvious to anyone that you are wearing a self tanner.
Whenever I have a spare minute in the evening (when I’m not asleep on the couch), I like to take a bath. And no bath is a bath in my mind without wine, a book, music and a No 7 Protect and Perfect Intense Advanced Serum Boost sheet mask. It may be a mouthful to say, but it is totally worth it. It even has the loops to hook around your ears so there is no chance it will slide off your face when you have to sit up and tell your kid to stop dipping his/her toys in mommy’s tub.
And if nothing on this list is remotely appealing? Just give her a big hug and tell her thank you. That is just as heart warming as a day at the spa….Happy Mother’s Day!
